The Robeson County Superior Court minutes, dated November 27, 1848, identifies Alexander D. Bracey as the father of Henry Scott Lewis in the following manner: "State vs. Alexander Bracey. Bastardy by L. Lewis. Bond of Indemnity filed. It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that Alexander Bracey is the putative father of a bastard child begotten on the body of Littishey Lewis. It is considered by the Court that the defendant pay to the said Littishey Lewis the sum of Fifteen dollars for the first year beginning with the birth of the child and Ten dollars for each subsequent year." Henry Lewis (age 2) was listed as a household member living with Zilphia Lewis (grandmother) on the 1850 US Census in Robeson County, NC. Also listed was Leticia Lewis - age 22. Leticia Lewis married Enoch Bass on June 22, 1853 in Robeson County, NC. Henry F. Pittman was bondsman. Henry was listed as Scott Lewis (age 13) in the household of Enoch Bass in the 1860 US Census for Robeson County, NC. Enoch Bass was age 25, Leteshia Bass was listed as age 30, with Seaborn (age 10), Joel (age 8), and Espy J. (age 5) also in the household.
