| James Lewis was born in 1781 in Georgetown District,
SC (present-day Marion County). Around 1811, James moved his
young family to Darlington County, SC, where his older brother
Benjamin was living. Around 1821, James moved his family south
- probably to Florida first (following his older brothers Benjamin
and William), then ended up in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, where
he remained until his death. |
