The Descendents of Jacob Lewis and Two Wives

In the 1850 US Census, Jacob is married to Elizabeth ? In the 1860 US Census, Jacob is married to Ann A. ? In all censuses, Jacob and his family are located in Town Creek Township of Brunswick County. In 1845 and 1847, Jacob receives grants from the State of North Carolina, each 100 acres in Town Creek Township, indicating his arrival into the area. Jacob was born in Florida in 1824 - not long after his parents moved there from Robeson County, NC. After Jacob reached adulthood, he decided that he did not like Florida and chose to move to Brunswick County, NC to be close to cousins - the sons of James Simeon Lewis.

Jacob served in the Civil War in Company K of the 36th Regiment NC Troops (2nd Artillery) at Fort Caswell and Fort Fisher. There is no record of him being captured nor wounded when Fort Fisher fell in January of 1865, therefore he could have been at the Bentonville battlefield when the Confederate Army surrended to General Grant.

He continued to purchase land in Brunswick County into the 1870s, then he "disappears" from the Author's scope - possibly due to his death or his moving elsewhere. Since none of his later children seem to have remained in Brunswick County, it is highly likely that Jacob and Ann moved to parts as yet unknown.
